Creating a Strong Handshake Profile
For the best Handshake experience you’ll want a strong student profile. This is how Handshake delivers the events, resources and opportunities that match your interests.
After activating your Handshake account, the next step is to set up your profile. For the best Handshake experience and content that aligns with your interests:
- Update your individual page – add volunteer work, relevant coursework, skills, jobs, internships, etc.
- Upload your professional documents if you have them
- Update “Get to Know Me” with a brief description
- Complete your Career Interests section

- Use the advanced filters to set and receive customized alerts.
- When using filters, focus on one priority – position, location or keyword.
- Broaden your search if necessary.
- Consider the variety of job titles (e.g. “Student Support” vs. “Front Desk Clerk”) and employers who list internships as part-time jobs.
- Only use the ‘pay’ filter when you’ve researched the average pay for a specific role in an industry.
When evaluating options, consider roles that:
- Align with your interests
- Offer the types of challenges that you’d like to solve
- Help you gain skills that support your future goals or are transferable to other paths
LinkedIn and Handshake both have similar job search functions, but Handshake has these unique features for students:
- On-campus positions are posted on Handshake frequently
- Sort jobs by your college qualifications (Major, GPA, etc.)
- School labels tell you about an employer’s connections to the University of Arizona
- Sort by Collections – ‘Arizona’ collection, ‘Wildcat Career Alliance’ collection, ‘Recruits at your School’, etc.
Use filters and customized alerts to be notified of opportunities and postings that match your interests.

Handshake is designed for college students like you.
Hop on Handshake to connect with jobs, internships and career support that match your skills and interests as a Wildcat and beyond.
Handshake is the free career hub used at the University of Arizona. Handshake connects students with internships, part-time and full-time jobs, and much more. Students can research employers and jobs, on and off-campus.
For a job search, Handshake is similar to other job search platforms but with a few important differences that benefit students. First, Handshake allows students to find on-campus jobs, sort opportunities by major or GPA requirements and view collections of employers that have a connection to the University of Arizona. Additionally, organizations who use Handshake to recruit for their available roles are seeking early talent – candidates who are in college or who have recently graduated.
Handshake is more than a job board. Students can use Handshake to connect with Student Engagement & Career Development to make career and internship coaching appointments and register for career fairs and career-readiness workshops. Students can also get information about volunteer opportunities and clubs and organizations on campus.
Students at the University of Arizona have access to Handshake for life. Log in with your NetID at arizona.joinhandshake.com. Students who are graduating should update their email address to ensure they have access post-commencement.
