Let’s go over how to find research opportunities; one way that you can find research opportunities is in handshake so when i’m logged into handshake i see my home
page here and i’m going to click on the jobs tab. From the jobs tab I’ll select the on-campus filter because likely i’ll be looking for positions on campus and then i’ll just type in the word research, so if i type in the words research you automatically see a lot of positions on campus that include research but it doesn’t mean that I’ve captured everything if you have a specific keyword that you’re looking for like a title of a subject area or you know you want to work in a lab maybe I type in the word lab and I find some different positions that i’m looking for so don’t be afraid to type in there and test different search terms to find on-campus opportunities you can get the
details of the position you can look at the description and click at the full description to see if you’re eligible or at least that you match all of the candidate preferences for the posting. Another thing you can do to find opportunities is use the undergraduate research homepage from the University of Arizona and that’s just ur.arizona.edu
now if i wasn’t sure where to begin I can click on getting started which provides some great first steps in helping me complete these four things like identify my interests find opportunities how to communicate with faculty things like that so i want to find opportunities so i’m going to click on find research and click search ua researchers database now here I’ll find the database where i can narrow it down by college I can search by department i can narrow it down by the type of opportunity so maybe I need credit and i want to get research opportunities so I can click on for credit maybe i’m only interested in paid opportunities i can narrow it there I can also limit it to main campus so maybe i’m like i don’t have a car I it’s hard for me to get off campus I can limit it to the location I can also just look at different keywords if maybe i’m
not sure what department it in it’s in but i know i’m looking for opportunities in sustainability so I can use any of those to find research opportunities so let’s see what we find let’s just say I click on paid and i hit apply now i’ve got a list broken down by the name of the principal researcher the department they’re in if they’re offering research opportunities which yes because this is the research database the types of opportunities are only paid because that’s a filter that I used prerequisites so it’ll tell you what you need to participate so for example this participation needs basic programming skill in c or python and the research location so what campus you’re looking for so you can use either of these tools whether it be handshake or the undergraduate research page to find research opportunities good luck with your search.
