Career Core by Kaplan: Applications (Topic 22)
Recommended for students and alumni in an active job or internship search who are ready to submit applications.
At last, you’ve reached the point where you’re applying for that Next Big Step. You may be itching to start reading job postings and creating your crafted resumes. But that’s not where you should start.
This topic will take you through all parts of the application process: searching through postings, crafting effective applications that demonstrate your fit, interviewing with poise and confidence, handling offers, and making that ultimate decision.
But it’s important to realize that this dance is among the most difficult you’ve done to date. There are many steps, and you will likely work your way through a stack of applications. Because it’s critical to be organized and prepared for the long haul, several pages will cover a pre-application process, where you develop your systematic approach. Then, after the applications are submitted, there are post-application steps to take to make sure your name is the one selected.
Throughout your time as a Wildcat, you’ve hopefully done a lot of great work compiling the resources you’ll need to succeed as you move through the application process. Now is the time when all of those resources come together, and every tool in your tool kit will be needed as you proceed.
If you decide to start here, consider pausing and completing the following topics in order to be as prepared as possible to proceed through the application process:

Keep in mind that most students take around 1–2 hours to complete a topic. If you choose not to complete the above topics in advance, you should plan to spend at least 5–10 hours on this topic, not including actual application submissions and interviews.
