Norton School UGTA Job Description (HDFS, RCSC, FITS, HECL)
We invite you to apply for an Undergraduate Teaching Assistant position within the Norton School of Human Ecology for Fall 2024. Applications will be accepted until 5/3/2024 at 12:00 pm MST.
Description: UGTA’s assist instructors in supporting students and delivering undergraduate courses in the Norton School. This includes Human Development and Family Science, Retailing and Consumer Science, Fashion Industry’s Science and Technology, and Human Ecology courses.
Responsibilities: UGTA’s have varying responsibilities, depending on the course and supervising instructor. In general, UGTA’s will attend class lectures to support collaborative in-class activities, meet with supervising instructor once a week, offer office hours to help students one-on-one, answer student questions via the course discussion forums, facilitate online discussion forums, offer supplemental instruction section each week, assist with grading assignments, projects, and exams, help develop and test course content.
Fall 2024 Possible Courses Include: HECL 201, HECL 202, HECL 301, HDFS 101, HDFS 117, HDFS 237, HDFS 323, HDFS 377, HDFS 413, HDFS 427C, RCSC 114, RCSC 150B1, RCSC 220, RCSC 315, RCSC 360, RCSC 384, FITS 100, FITS 215, FITS 333, FITS 335, FITS 345, FITS 400, FITS 435. Subject to change.
Hours: 10 hours/week (Fall 2024 expected start date is 08/19/2024)
Compensation: $14.50/hr
General Requirements: An interest in supporting collaborative and positive environments for the Norton School undergraduate students; a willingness to mentor students and support them to be successful college students; demonstrated organizational, writing, and communication skills; ability to attend weekly meetings; GPA of 3.00 or higher; availability to work 10 hours per week; enrolled in a minimum of 6 units/ semester. . Some additional course-specific requirements may be set by the instructor, including completing specific coursework, earning particular grades, and having relevant subject matter knowledge. Please note that preference will be given to those who can attend class.
