JOB SHADOW PROGRAM AT THE UNIVERSITY OF ARIZONA

Gain exposure to a professional workplace or first-hand experience in your chosen field, in a single day!

The Job Shadow Program (JSP) in partnership with the College of Science provides multiple opportunities for students to expand their knowledge about industries, job functions, and employer culture at participating organizations. JSP is a low-stakes, high-value opportunity to provide students the opportunity to make connections and peek behind the curtain to view future career options and opportunities.

Alumni and employers with a connection to the university are invited to host one or more students! Complete an interest form by October 28th, 2024.

Students

WHAT IS THE JOB SHADOW PROGRAM?

The Job Shadow Program is a single-day educational experience to gain exposure to a professional workplace, explore potential careers and make professional connections. Students may participate in one shadow per academic year. You may apply for up to five opportunities per session. Job shadows can fill quickly once they’re posted on Handshake, so be sure to apply as soon as possible.

HOW TO APPLY

Applications open on Handshake starting on November 1, 2024. You’ll need to upload a resume and cover letter for each shadow you’re applying for. If you need support with these professional documents, drop into LifeLab.

  1. Get on Handshake.
  2. Click on “Jobs”.
  3. Click on “Filters” and scroll down to the bottom of the page and select “Labeled by your School”.
  4. Type in the label “UA Job Shadow Program”.
  5. Starting November 1, click “Apply”.
  6. Submit a cover letter & resume for each shadow to which you are applying (Max: 5).

Host Notified of Matches: December 4, 2024 – December 8, 2024

Host and Students Introduced and Connected By: December 17, 2024

Shadows Take Place: December 19, 2024 – January 30, 2025

Host Information

WHAT IS THE JOB SHADOW PROGRAM?

The Job Shadow Program (JSP) is a single-day educational experience for students. For some, it may be their initial exposure to a professional workplace. For others, it will be a chance to build their professional network or explore a career field they’re interested in.

Depending on the nature of your industry or organization, a student’s job shadow day with you may consist of:

  • Observation of your daily work
  • Touring your building
  • Sitting in on meetings & other activities
  • Presentations by executives
  • Informational Interviews with professionals in your office
  • Networking with alumni or other professionals

HOW TO BECOME A HOST

Fill out the host interest form by October 31, 2024 to be eligible to participate.

  1. Our team will review the description to determine eligibility.
  2. If eligible, we will contact you to confirm approval.
  3. Upon approval, your job shadow opportunity will be posted to Handshake and students will be able to find and apply for the opportunity.
  4. After the application deadline closes, our team will review applicants based on the student’s career interest, majors, and preferences.
  5. You will be notified by December 17, 2024, if a student has been approved for your shadow opportunity.
