The University of Arizona Office of Sustainability seeks six highly qualified undergraduate or graduate students to engage in the development of University’s first-ever Sustainability & Climate Action Plan. The Action Plan will outline an ambitious and comprehensive roadmap for achieving a sustainable, zero-emissions, and resilient future. The Action Plan is being created through an inclusive and equitable process, engaging students, faculty, staff, and community members with the goal of enhancing the capacity of the University and Arizona communities to withstand and recover from climate-related challenges.
Each intern will serve as official members of an assigned working group within the Action Plan- Academics, Built Environment, Campus Culture & Engagement, Equity & Justice, Research, and Responsible Sourcing & Investment – with their primary duties focused on providing support for the critical work of each working group tasked with. Interns will contribute to conversations and the development of recommendations while also supporting notetaking, calendaring, research, and other administrative tasks as assigned.
Interns will attend a professional development workshop at the outset of the internship designed to develop/improve skills in email communication, meeting facilitation, drafting of reports, and related skills that will be critical for success within the role, and assist in the beginning phases of implementation upon the completion of the Action Plan.
Additional responsibilities may include supporting broader Office of Sustainability initiatives to promote a campus culture of sustainability. This position may also occasionally assist with administrative and office support tasks within the Office of Sustainability.

September 25, 2023 – May 17, 2024

Pay rate: $15.00/hour
You must be a currently enrolled University of Arizona student, with a graduation date of May 2024 or later, to be considered for this position.
We recognize that sustainability is a historically privileged space. Therefore, this position does not require prior experience or knowledge in sustainability. All skills and required knowledge will be provided by the Office of Sustainability.
Responsibilities:
- Participate in shaping the Action Plan by providing input into discussions among working groups
- Organize and support virtual and in-person meetings of your assigned working group
- Learn to produce meeting agendas, presentations, and meeting summaries
- Learn to develop concise written reports based on the recommendations developed by your assigned working group
- Create drafts on communications materials for the Action Plan website
- Help organize and facilitate Action Plan-related campus events
Required Qualifications:
- Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to positively represent the Office of Sustainability to our campus and community stakeholders;
- Advanced written and verbal communication skills, including a strong proficiency in public speaking;
- Ability to work in a diverse team environment;
- Must be available to work in-person early days, late nights, and weekends.
Preferred Qualifications (highly desirable, but not required):
- Background/interest in sustainability, environmental conservation/management, and/or social justice;
- Experience/interest in one or more of the working group areas (Academics, Built Environment, Campus Culture & Engagement, Equity & Justice, Research, and Responsible Sourcing & Investment)
