The Department of Entomology is seeking a work-study student to assist on the weekends with the rearing and maintenance of wild-type and genetically engineered mosquito colonies in the laboratory of Dr. Michael Riehle. Dr. Riehle’s lab conducts research on mosquito physiology, pathogen transmission and utilizes mosquitoes as a model organism for aging research. The student will be responsible assisting with mosquito colony maintenance, screening of genetically engineered mosquitoes for eye fluorescence, dish washing, and other general laboratory chores. In addition, qualified applicants will assist with molecular studies on mosquito aging or pathogen transmission. The successful candidate must be well organized, attentive to details, and capable of learning new techniques.
