Join the PAD team at the McGuire Center for Entrepreneurship. The Production and Design Lab helps students bring their business ideas to market by developing physical and application-based prototypes, web presence, visual content as well as social media and print marketing for student and community-based startups. This cross-functional team strives to be a center of excellence for technology deployed in a startup environment, facilitating the launch and acceleration of small businesses.
The Prototyping and Design Lead has the following core responsibilities, in addition to an opportunity to learn from other functional area leads:
Areas of Responsibility
- Collaborate with McGuire Center students to build digital and physical prototypes
- Collaborate with students to help them learn the basics of prototyping, CAD design, and 3D modeling
- Create technical drawings and models to transition products from idea to prototype, and prototype to small batch production
- Collaborate with Production and Design Lab team leads to develop cross-functional skills
Skills and experience
- SolidWorks or equivalent
- Technical drawing and design for manufacturing
- Knowledge of 3D printing and rapid prototyping methods
Preferred additional attributes/experience/skills
- Entrepreneurial passion or interest
- Competency in Adobe Dimension and Blender
- Practical experience in building prototypes
- Enthusiasm to expand your personal skillset, to learn through experimentation and application, and teach others
