Duties
Hill Air Force Base scientists & engineers integrate new technology into existing aircraft, and modernize them so they can perform in modern warfare. We also create unique solutions for unique problems that arise for years of wear and tear on Minute Man III, F-16s, A-10s, and C-130s. We also manage the acquisition of the new Sentinel program (the Minute Man III replacement).
Scientists and engineers in the AFSC use their educational skills and expertise to create requirements, create designs, implement designs, and test modifications to upgrade Air Force assets. Scientists and engineers have opportunities to oversee the lifecycle management of acquisition and sustainment programs, exercise methods to estimate financial cost, schedule technical tasks, produce contractual requirements, and oversee contracts.
Scientists and engineers are expected to clearly and concisely write, configure and control records of all science and engineering methods, decisions, results, and tracking of any corrective actions.

The AFCS is looking for interns, and full-time employees to work in the Air Force Sustainment Center (AFSC) at Hill Air Force Base in UT, Tinker Air Force Base in OK, and Robins Air Force Base in GA. What is the pay?
Pay is dependent on your Level of degree (e.g. Bachelor’s), GPA, and months experience using your degree post graduation.
We have an accelerated promotional pay scale based on experience. The following example is pay for a bachelor with a GPA of more than 2.95 is as follows:
- 0-6 Months experience GS-07: $46,696-60,703
- 7-12 months experience GS-09: $57,118-74,250
- 12-24 months experience GS-11: $69,107-89,835
- More than 24 months experience NH-03: $82,830-128,043

What qualifications do I need?
Scientists and Engineers must meet these qualification in order to get a job with the Air force:
- Must be a US citizen
- An accredited Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in any of those fields listed in red above. Engineers must have an ABET accredited degree. (Technician/technical degrees are not accepted)
- Ability to get a clearance
Additional Position Requirements
- Candidate must be a U.S. citizen.
- Engineers must have a degree at the bachelor’s level or above from an ABET accredited institution (meet OPM 08xx series hiring requirements).
- Computer Scientists must meet OPM 1550 hiring requirements.
- Interns must have 60 credits in their field of study.
- Work may occasionally require travel away from the normal duty station on military or commercial aircraft.
- The work requires the incumbent to obtain and maintain the appropriate security clearance.
- This position has been designated as an Non-Critical Acquisition Position and is covered by the Acquisition Professional Development Program (APDP). The employee must meet, or be capable of meeting Defense Acquisition Workforce Improvement Act (DAWIA) certification requirements applicable to the career category designated on the position description within 24 months of assignment. This position also requires the employee to engage in acquisition continuous learning activities achieving 80 Continuous Learning points every 24 months.
- Employee must within 30‐days of assuming this position and annually thereafter, file an OGE‐450, “Confidential Financial Disclosure Report.” Employee is required to attend annual ethics and procurement integrity training.
