Optimizing Your Handshake Profile
What does it mean to optimize your profile?
When you optimize your Handshake profile, it means making your profile work for you! When you add relevant and important details about you and your career interests two things happen:
- Handshake will recommend jobs, internships, or events based on your career interests and activity.
- Employers can find you.
In short, Handshake does most of the work for you! But first you have to do some work up front.
Step One: Complete Your Profile
A complete profile allows you to present a complete picture of who you are as a student and professional.
A complete profile includes:
- Career Interests
- Graduation date
- 1 experience
- 1 organization
- 5 skills
- Photo highly suggested
The career search is not a one-way street!
Students with a full profile are 5 times as likely to be messaged by employers
A public profile allows employers to view your profile and download your resume. Employers may seek out those who have favorited their employer or give them priority for events with limited capacity. Also, you'll appear in relevant searches conducted by employers.
The Quickest Way to Complete Your Profile
Use the resume auto-upload feature to pull information directly from your resume. Review the extracted information and confirm that it is accurate and correctly formatted. Finally, select the option to make it public to employers. You can return your profile to the private setting at any time. Just remember, employers can’t find you unless your profile is public!
Step Two: Update Your Career Interests
- Desired industries
- Job functions
Step Three: Keep Informed
Show interest in employers and events and you'll receive timely notifications about job postings, on-campus interviews, and employer and career events.
- Favorite Employers
- Join events
