Summer Internship Stipends – A Career Impacting Award
You may be eligible for a $2500 summer internship stipend to support your work over the summer! Some internship opportunities are unpaid or have additional costs associated with them such as moving, travel, or professional attire. The summer internship stipend provides extra financial support so eligible students can focus on getting the most out of their summer internship.

What is the Summer Internship Stipend (SIS) ?A $2500 stipend distributed to a bursar’s account to support eligible students’ participation with approved internships.

What are the student eligibility requirements? Do I have to meet all of them? How do I qualify? How do I find out if I’m eligible?Students and internship opportunities must meet all eligibility requirements. Students will be notified of their eligibility through an email from the LifeLab Team (lifelab@arizona.edu) in fall 2024.
Student eligibility requirements include:
- University of Arizona undergraduate enrolled/enrolling in classes for Fall 2025
- U.S. citizen or permanent resident (or U.S. high school graduate eligible to receive residency benefits under Arizona Prop 308)
- Hired for a summer 2025 internship
- Has completed at least 30 college credits
- In good academic standing
- Has not previously been awarded a Summer Internship Stipend
- Meet need-based criteria according to records of the Office of Scholarships and Financial Aid. Eligible students will be messaged and invited to apply.

What are the internship eligibility requirements?All qualifying internships are eligible. Reach out to LifeLab for more information or to determine if an internship you’re interested meets the eligibility requirements.

How do I search for opportunities?Students can search for opportunities in Handshake. All qualifying internships are eligible, and we work closely with a few local employer partners! In Handshake under jobs, click on “all filters”. Scroll down to find “Labeled by your school” and type in “sis”. Select the sis label then click “show results” to see the opportunities with employer partners! Or search more broadly based on your career interests. What do I need to apply for an internship?Follow the directions within each position’s posting. Most opportunities require applicants to apply through Handshake with a resume and cover letter. You can get help with your materials by meeting 1:1 with an internship coach. Book an internship coaching appointment through Handshake.

How do I apply for a stipend?Once you have been offered an internship, you can apply for funding through our Summer Internship Stipend Application on Qualtrics (eligible students will be invited to apply starting in late Fall 2024)

How will the stipend be dispersed?Once you accept an offer, we can help you apply for the stipend and complete an internship workplan with the internship supervisor. If you are awarded the stipend, you will be notified in May 2025 and the stipend will be distributed to your bursar’s account in one sum. Remember that you must be registered for Fall 2025 classes to be eligible.

There are steps you can take ahead of time to make your internship application process seamless when you find opportunities that interest you.
- Determine if an internship fits into your summer plans. Need to talk it through? A great first step is to connect with a LifeLab Guide to have a conversation about your plans and goals for an internship.
- Prepare your application materials. Make an Internship Coaching appointment for comprehensive resume/cover letter support.
- Freshen up your interview skills by practicing in a mock interview. Eventually you will land that interview and practicing now will help you be prepared!
