COVID-19 Update: We're Still Here for Your Career
We know that many of you are thinking about future internships and jobs — and aren't quite sure what to do now that in-person courses and events have cancelled or moved online. We want to assure you that just because most work is moving online, it doesn't mean that you need to stop planning summer internships, engaging with potential employers, and applying for jobs. Internships for credit that require in person presence should be planned after July 1.
Here are a few ways to leverage Handshake and other SECD resources to continue to actively explore career opportunities while practicing social distancing.
1. Attend online events and programs
Until further notice, SECD, as well as departments across campus, are shifting their career-related programs and events online. Others hosting events are likely doing the same. Head to the events page in Handshake and search for events marked as "virtual session" event type. If you see any in-person events, please note that these events are most likely being shifted to virtual sessions.
2. Online appointments with a peer or career educator via Zoom (or email or phone)
If you need timely career advice from a peer or career educator, you don't need to be on campus. Take advantage of these different types of appointments. Head to Handshake to schedule an appointment.
3. On-Demand Online Resources
If you're in the middle of your internship or job search and would like access to additional resources beyond what's available on our website, enroll in Design Your Search. This interactive experience will give you access to online modules in D2L, special events, and an extensive overview of strategies to use throughout your search. You also get personalized coaching with an assigned Career Educator and consistent help from trained peers which means you have specific people to turn to who know your needs and goals and can help answer your questions as they relate to you. Start any time.
Right now things are fluid and changing quickly but we're working diligently to make sure you have access to the resources and support you need. Your future is bright and we want to help you plan for it.
